+ You see an enormous Oil Refinery that appears to stretch for miles. It is indeed a massive operation.
This oil refinery is the main hub unit of all oil trading and refining for this system.
Cronis: Don't count on that Commander, Some days this place closes down for several weeks of maintenance and then it starts up again. I been here once before and they don't tell you when they will be shutting the place down or going into shutdown. It''s a nusiance actually but we gotten used to it and co-existed peacefully with these Tarlites. But they don't like to always tell us their schedules when it comes to operating their Oil Refinery.
|
Storm: Also adding to that because the raw fuel has to be refined first at Sopn to get all
the impurities out of it. We cannot buy the fuel direct from Sopn. We can only send them raw materials to refine it into fuel for us, but the fuel has to be purchased from the Sopn space refuling station above the planet. Sorry we can't buy the fuel directly from the Sopn Refinery. They won't allow any local trades to be made with passing ships. The say we should just buy our fuel from the space station. |
Storm: Things work differently down here on Sopn Commander. You can only get converted fuel by visiting the refueling depot beside the space station. Not down on the planet itself. I been on Sopn before a couple of times and got turned away when asking them to convert some raw materials for me into fuel when my ship was passing by this planet. They were lucky I didn't toast the whole place for turning down the request of a national hero.

William Smith: Sopn, urgh, the thought of it makes me think of the times I went here
only to find the place wasn't even open and was under maintenance. I had some droids tell us this when me and Storm last visited here. Something does need to be done about the times and schedules of this place. I don't like the way its being run. The Commander is right, its their Refinery, their rules unless the Ryzan Council can step in and gives them some new rules or gives them their marching orders. They shouldn't be allowed to trade fuel supplies if its not going to be convenient for others. |
William Smith: The Point is Commander it gets real expensive for us to send ships out to Sopn
to try to get fuel supplies. But since the place is mostly automated by droids, we don't know who is even in charge of them. There's nobody that we can talk to to find out if the fuel trading can be negotiated to a new deal with them or not. Things do need to change around here at Sopn. |
Janice Worse For Wear: I've just scanned the whole planet Commander and unbelievable as it is, the only dry reliable place to build a fuel depot or refinery on is that one spot where the Sopn Refinery is sitting on now. There is no reliable ground hard enough to build a refuel depot upon. The whole planet is filled with too much oil and tar. The ground is not stable or hard enough to put anything else on it. At least they do have a landing pad down there at the refinery for our ships to dock and unload raw fuel supplies on. But that's about it. There are no additional buildings down there, its just one enormous facility. It is mostly filled with
droids according to our last scan of the facility. |
Storm: One more thing. You cannot buy converted fuel from the Space Station, not until you have first gone down on the planet and handed over your raw materials over to the Sopn Refinery. Otherwise the Space Station will just refuse to give us the fuel. I think its an automated system but as for who is in charge of running it I have no idea. But it might pay to visit the Refinery to find out.
|
Nosey Nella Parkas: More like the Soppys. Gee this dosen't sound very fair to everybody
else who has to go all out of their way to rearrange their schedules just to visit their facility. If they give you no timetable to know when they are operating or not. gee that's not very nice. The Ryzan council must do something about this. |
Storm: We cannot get ahold of their Council. I think the refinery is automated. I seen plenty of
droids handling the fuel supplies and pipelines to the ships to extract the raw fuel materials but i've seen no refuling depots down on Sopn for refuling ships so it must be true that there's only just one refuling depot near the Sopn space station that Sopn delivers the refined fuel up there. |
Storm: It might be one of those strange planets where only the spot where the Sopn Refinery is built on, is the only safe reliable solid ground that they have left on the planet according to Janice. Maybe they got no room so they put it up near the space station. Couldn't put it down on the surface, and if the planet is that unstable with all these many pools of tar all around that could be the reason why, there could be a hundred different reasons we don't know about but that's my best guess.
|
Commander: So the Sopans won't give fuel not until you give them raw materials to convert with and only then after they get the materials they will sell you the fuel, I got that right. do we even know their conversion rate, how do we know we have got enough of the tar from Grimus to get a decent amount of fuel for the ship. |
Storm: Correct. They will just give you old fuel they converted months ago or something. They
won't give you the converted fuel directly. We do not know what their conversion rates are because they won't tell us that information either. Droids, Arrghh. There must be someone down there who is not running by a stubborn computer program. But I didn't see them. |
Commander: Well, I suppose its a win win, for the system works for them.
but it puts the rest of us out having to suit them, so I think that issue should be brought the next time we visit the Ryzan Council or maybe I should mention it to Central and see what can be done about this. The least they could do is tell us when and what time they will shut the refinery down so we don't waste our time visiting their planet only to be turned away because we came at the wrong time. |
Storm; Well good luck with that Commander Land on the Pad and Enter Into The Sopn Oil Refinery Leave Refinery |
