Ship Scanning System:
Scanning is very simple you enter a system you not been in before and just scan the area, it will build the star chart for the area and display what it finds on the screen. Depending on what type of scanner you are using will determine how far the range can extend and the amount of objects it picks
up in the scan.
Scanners avaliable for upgrades:
Mark I Scanner Cost: (already installed)
Mark II Scanner Cost: 52,000 credits from Omega Trading Station (Veltas System)
Mark III Scanner Cost: 600,000 credits from (Rims Outerworlds)
Memory Cores required: Mark II needs 1 extra core of memory. It pays also to get at least 6 of those cores (max memory upgrade ) if you plan on doing Interstellar Galactic travels. If you do upgrade to a new ship the cores are tranferrable.
Warning operating the Mark II without having 3 memory cores installed, scan
results may not be readable. and results in garbage on the screen like this:

echo. Storm: You need to get another memory core, Commander to get the
echo. scanner working properly again or we are just going to get nothing
echo. but junk. The guy did warn us that this would happen if we didn't
echo. get enough of the memory cores when upgrading the scanner.

Warning: The Mark III needs 2 extra cores of memory installed or the scans won't be readable.
If you enter a New Part of a Quadrant you not been in before. If you have only 3 Memory Cores the scan will take longer to complete. If you have only 2 memory cores and trying to scan with the Mark II you will get nothing but junk.....You need 4 memory cores to scan the quadrant to get the basic map.
The More Powerful The Ship's scanners, the more things will be detected in the scan of the new uncharted system. The Mark III can penetrate energy andradiation cloud barriers to see what is lurking behind or inside it. Handy to find enemy ships they maybe hiding there. but the Mark III is very expensive to get. Cost 1 million or so credits.
To Store all the Slipstream Drive Galaxy map information, you need 6 memory cores so there no degradation of data over time. or losing star maps to data corruption. and you will soon
know data corruption problems happen when the Stupi A>I Computer starts losing medicalrecords of ship personnel or losing basic database facts on Telos.
Just a basic level 1 scan.
