T6 Unit: Negative, the warp core does not need the shields to be online for more than several minutes. Shutting down the shields it will get us enough time to get past the Ion Field without damaging the shields or the containment. If we keep the shields online as we go through the Ion field the shields will get damaged and will compromise the warp core and containment will collapse and could lead to a cascade warp core event. Oooh T6 hopes he is right in his
calculations. |
Computer: Warp Core Meltdown. Warp Core Breach, Rip in The Containment Field, Tear in the Warp Core Crystal. I recommend that the shields should be online in order to maintain the contaniment field around the core. The shields cannot be down for too long otherwise it will compromise the core and corrupt the containment field and then we will lose this world.

Commander: Oooer, Understood. Sounds like something that Jacobs should be doing, but as risky as it sounds, we will have to make our best judgement on this. Otherwise I will have to talk with Jacobs. He knows more about the warp core than I do so he would be the best person to talk to. Stop the ship right here Skynar while I make my decision.
|
Jacobs: You called me in Commander, is there some kind of emergency. What is wrong with the ship this time. Another repair or malfunction that I have to look at. There's always something wrong going on with this ship. Everytime I turn around something falls out of place or starts to malfunctions. We are currently monitoring the ship manifold. We know it will give out at any time. Its on its last legs now. We will need to do something about it soon.
|
Jacobs: My recommendation would be to go with the T6 droid. If we did what the computer says and if the ship computer is wrong in its calculations then we will either blow the core up or badly damage it, its an Ion field isn't it. Yeah that's harmful to the shields when they are operational with a warp containment system so I understand why T6 urges you to shut down
the shields to protect the ship and the core from exposure from the Ion particles. The shields can attract the particles on board the ship and get into the warp core and cause all kinds of instabilities with containment. And then we will have to cold start the engine to flush the core if Ion Particles get inside it. So risk of a warp core meltdown isn't the only thing to worry about. Contamination of the plasma in the core is. If that ever happens, we will be without any warp power for a day. |
Jacobs: Anti Matter, oh yes I almost forgot about that danger with Ion particles.. But since we are also dealing with Asteroids containing unknown dark matter that kinna complicates things. Let me think this out.....Hmm.... If we do what the ship computer suggests to keep the shields online just to maintain the containment of the core. The ion particles could damage the whole ship even if the shields were on for just a few minutes while inside of the field.
